The BRIC, the Brussels Region IT Centre, is computerising the public authorities in the Brussels-Capital Region.

The Centre helps these authorities to use information and communication technologies (ICT) to facilitate their own tasks and for the benefit of everyone in Brussels: citizens, businesses and the self-employed, as well as the public authorities.

Who calls upon the BRIC?

  • 250 public authorities and administrations, both regional (government, parliament, the Ministry of the Brussels-Capital Region, public interest bodies, etc.) and local (communes, social welfare centres, etc.)
  • 550 primary and secondary schools, universities and colleges,
  • all the IRIS public hospitals of Brussels.

What does the BRIC do?

As a partner in the modernisation of the public authorities and services, the BRIC is developing its range of IT services on the basis of integrated logic:

  • IRISnet regional network: telecommunications infrastructure,
  • data centre: high-performance, secured intermediate “machines” layer,
  • sector and technical platforms: UrbIS professional digital cartography, NOVA (urban planning, environmental permit management, etc.),
  • citizens’ services: regional and local authority portals, IRISbox electronic front office, etc.

In practical terms, the BRIC range comprises six groups of services: infrastructure, telecommunications, security, client support, hosting and sector solutions.

To carry out its mission, the Centre:

  • has a team of almost 200 high-level staff,
  • adopts a critical approach to ICT by benchmarking technologies and applications,
  • makes use, when appropriate, of strategic public/private partnerships.
